Lac Cultivation

Lac Cultivation

Kamdars Care, in collaboration with Farmer Producer Organizations (FPOs) and Self-Help Groups (SHGs), promotes lac cultivation as a sustainable livelihood option for rural communities. This initiative empowers farmers and women’s groups to adopt scientific lac farming techniques, enhancing income generation and fostering agro-forestry development.

Lac, a natural resin secreted by lac insects on host trees, has diverse industrial applications in varnishes, dyes, cosmetics, and pharmaceuticals. Kamdars Care supports community-led cultivation, processing, and marketing of lac under a collective framework, improving both productivity and value addition.

Key Components

  • Training & Capacity Building: Providing technical knowledge on host tree identification, insect inoculation, harvesting, and post-harvest processing.
  • Input Support: Supplying quality lac insect brood, tools, and necessary inputs to FPOs and SHGs.
  • Sustainable Agroforestry: Promoting integration of lac host trees on farmland, increasing biodiversity and soil health.
  • Value Addition & Marketing: Assisting groups in lac processing and linking them with buyers and industries for better market access.
  • Inclusive Livelihoods: Fostering women’s participation and collective decision-making to ensure equitable benefits.

Through this program, Kamdars Care enables rural communities to diversify their income, build resilience, and contribute to eco-friendly agricultural practices by harnessing the potential of lac cultivation.
